HOW IT ALL STARTED:
My passion for fitness modelling was ignited after watching a Miami Pro event a few years back, after I had recently had my first child. I had left London, where I had lived for many years, and set up home in Bristol. My path crossed with my now-coach Joanna Nowak of Go Pro Fitness. Joanna is a personal trainer with experience in bodybuilding who had placed in Miami Pro in the past, gaining her pro card. I explained that I loved watching the Miami Pro show and that I was keen to enter a competition to see if I could get my body in its best shape, this is how my journey began, I’ve always loved fitness.

From an early age I gained my black belt in tae-kwon-do and represented Wales. I competed in horse events, played tennis, and when I left performing arts college I was a professional dancer for many years which took me to the United States, Europe and around the UK. I also competed in boxing events for many years. I thoroughly enjoyed that, as well as numerous running events. So fitness modelling gave me a new goal and a new passion, and I love it. The training style was new to me, but after a few months of adjusting to it I actually started to look forward to the DOMS you get a few days later!

After months of training I entered my first competition and placed 1st in the Fitness Model category and 3rd in Bikini. I was over the moon, all the hard work had paid off and the buzz on stage was incredible. I even won an extra prize for best legs, which was the icing on the cake. Miami Pro Universe was my second show, I was so nervous, as this was what I had been aiming for for many years. I had been inspired by so many beautiful ladies when I watched Miami Pro many years ago. In fact, it was Kate Michalkova who first caught my eye. I thought she looked stunning, and with a similar body frame to mine she had the look I was aiming for. She’s since judged me in a competition, which was surreal for me.

My first Miami Pro show went really well. I placed 1st in Fit Mums and gained my MP pro card and my pro status. This was the one category that meant the most to me, because after I had my little boy I’d thought to myself, “I wonder if I could enter that category one day and make my son proud.” It was such an amazing feeling to win. I also placed 2nd in overall Fitness Model, gaining another pro card, and 4th in Over 35s Fitness Model. I had the most amazing day and couldn’t believe all the awards I received — it was the highlight of my year.

I’ve since gone on to place in other competitions, where I took 1st, 3rd and 4th place. What a great way to end last year! This year I will be competing again and hope to have another successful year. I’m now sharing my own experience and knowledge and prepping my first group of girls, which is very exciting.
None of this would have been possible without the support of my husband and family. So thank you to them. I hope I have inspired not only my son Freddie to follow his dreams when he’s older, but other yummy mummies out there as well!
